We are delighted to say that Ed and Kubra’s work on ADAMTS14 and ADAMTS2 in myofibroblasts has been published this month in the Journal of Pathology! If you head over to our publications tab you will be able to click straight through to the paper and give it a read!


Grose Lab sweeps the prizes!

Congratulations to Qiaoying and Cerian who won best poster and best oral presentation respectively! The Grose lab had a great day at the Kingston “Signalling molecules in Disease” symposium November 2023, hearing about all sorts of research from schistosomiasis (parasitic worm infection!) to our very own Prof Grose talking through Ed’s work on ADAMTS proteases and myofibroblast differentiation.

We look forward to returning next year hopefully!


Congratulations Reza!

Reza has completed his thesis, with his viva set of December 19th! We can’t wait to celebrate before Christmas!


Congratulations Cerian on her William Harvey Day 2023 prize!

Cerian was not only awarded the opportunity to present a poster at this years William Harvey Day, but she also won the “Cancer” category! William Harvey Day showcases researchers from every department of the Medicine and Dentistry QMUL faculty, with posters from PhD students and post-docs. Additionally, group leaders from QMUL and key-note speakers from outside QMUL were invited to talk about their work. We had the pleasure of hearing about TRACERx from Professor Charles Swanton, a very important research initiative looking at lung cancer.

A great day and even better that the Grose Lab were able to present their work!


Welcome Julie!

Julie is joining us for the next few months to complete her undergraduate dissertation project. She will be working with Qiaoying on SEMA7A/FGFR signalling and PDAC. We wish her all the best with her upcoming lab work!


Welcome to our new PhD students!

It’s officially the start of the new academic year and that means new faces in the Grose Lab! We welcome Shanshan, Poppy and Andrea! Shanshan will be working on fibroblasts and breast cancer carrying on from Shayin and Reza, whilst Andrea and Poppy will be taking on Nick’s project probing further into cannabinoids and breast cancer!

Goodbye and good luck to Klaudia!

As the new academic year is starting soon we bid farewell to another summer student! Klaudia has produced some great data looking at FGFR and ephrin signalling PDAC for her final year dissertation. We wish her all the best as she starts her third undergraduate year.

Congratulations to Alba and Luisa for completing their MSc degree! We also say farewell to Gabby, who is heading back across the pond to complete her medical degree at UConn, and Adrianna who is starting a masters degree in Germany!

Welcome to our new BSc student, Klaudia, who is joining us for 2 months to complete her dissertation project! She will be working with Cerian on FGF2 and ephrin signalling in PDAC. We can’t wait to see some exciting results soon!


Farewell to Dr Ed Carter!

Congratulations to Ed who is starting a fellowship at Bath University!

We are all very sad to see him leave us after 8 years but excited to see him as a new PI! Future collaborations are pending!

This June, we welcome back Adrianna who was with us last summer for her BSc project. Adrianna is joining Qiaoying again to work on FGF signalling, alongside our two new MSc students, Luisa and Alba, who are joining Qiaoying to look at semaphorin signalling in PDAC! Additionally, we have Gabby joining us from USA to work over the summer on cannabinoids and breast cancer which Nick started!

London Pancreas Workshop 2023

Congratulations to Cerian, Qiaoying and Ed for presenting their posters and flash talks at the London Pancreas Workshop last week! It was great to hear about their ongoing research into stellate-cancer cell interactions. Well done to Cerian on presenting at her first conference and to Ed who was awarded a prize for the best abstract!

We are very pleased to announce that Cerian has chosen to complete her PhD with the Grose Lab! She will be with us until September 2025 working on nanoscale dissection of ephrin signalling in cellular invasion.

We can’t wait to see all the exciting data she produces!

Well done to Shayin and Elena who have won prizes at the BCI PhD day, presenting their PhD projects on DCIS and pancreatic cancer! Shayin won best poster presentation and Elena won best talk!


CRUK City of London PhD Summer Symposium

Congratulations to Shayin who helped organise the 2022 CRUK CoL Symposium! It was a great day of talks and science, enabling PhD students from across the London CRUK centres (UCL, King’s, Barts and The Crick) to network and catch-up!

It is with great sadness we say goodbye to our post-doc Lucia. After 4 years, she is moving on from the Grose lab to work in industry back in Spain! We all wish you the best Lucia and know you’ll do great things in big-pharma!


It’s time for MSc and BSc students to join us…

For summer 2022 we say welcome to Kien (BSc), Adrianna (BSc), Isobel (MSc) and Radhisha (MSc)! Kien will be working with Kubra on proteases in pancreatic cancer, whilst Adrianna is working with Qiaoying on FGFR signalling in PDAC. Shayin is mentoring Isobel for a DCIS project, and Radhisha is joining Reza for his research on macrophages and breast cancer! We can’t to see all their exciting data!


Mammary Gland Gordon Conference attended by Nick and Shayin

It’s another conference in Italy for the Grose lab! This time Shayin and Nick have been to present their work on myoepithelial cells in DCIS (Shayin) and CB2 in Her2+ breast cancer (Nick). Well done to both!

After an excellent three-month rotation with us, Rhianna is moving on to her second rotation at UCL with Dr Chris Tape! She has produced some great data, looking at ephrin signalling and PDAC invasion; we wish her all the best with joining the Tape Lab!

Welcome to our newest member of the team - Qiaoying

Earlier in the year we welcomed our new PhD student Qiaoying to the lab. It has already been a busy few months and we look forward to providing lots of updates about her project where she is investigating the therapeutic potential of FGFR signalling in pancreatic cancer.

Back to the lab!

After spending months in lockdown and working from home, we are set to return to our happy place, the lab, on the 29th of June. We will be working in 4 hour shifts and will help each other where we can. This is the time for the dream team to come together and be as efficient as possible! We will see if we can make this ‘new normal’ work.. To be continued..

Current challenges in Cancer Metastasis

Prof Grose will be presenting at the International Virtual Cancer Research Symposium on the 29th of June. It will take place on Zoom and he will be talking live from his office at home. We will be there. P.S. Everyone can sit front row for this one!


Dream team in action!

A big congratulations to Shayin, Reza and Nick for coming first place in the BCI PhD research engagement event, which took place on the 22nd of June. Their presentation, which had to be suitable for a non-scientific audience, was titled Identifying biological markers predicting breast cancer progression.
